The Transformers is an American animated television series of the science fiction and action genres. It is the first series in the Transformers multimedia franchise. The series depicts a war among giant robots that can transform into vehicles and other objects. [1] Written and recorded in America, the series was animated in Japan and South Korea. The entire series was based upon the Diaclone and Microman toy lines originally created by Japanese toy manufacturer Takara, which were developed into the Transformers toy line by American company Hasbro. [2] The series was supplemented by a feature film, Transformers: The Movie, which was released in 1986. The film takes place in between season two and season three of the regular series. [3]
