The Jetsons is an American animated situation comedy series with elements of the science fiction genre as well. It was created by animation producers William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. The original animated sitcom series aired in prime time from September 23rd, 1962 to March 17th, 1963 on ABC. The series was revived in 1985 where it aired in first run syndication. The series features the voice talents of George O'Hanlon as George Jetson, Penny Singleton as Jane Jetson, Daws Butler as Elroy Jetson, Janet Waldo as Judy Jetson, and Don Messick as Astro. Other voice talents include Mel Blanc as Cosmo S. Spacely, and Jean Vander Pyl as Rosie the Robot.
The Jetsons live in the future in the Skypad Apartments complex in Orbit City, where everything is available at the push of a button and all buildings, which are raised above the ground on adjustable columns, are made in the futuristic Googie architectural style popular in the 1950s and 1960s. George Jetson, the family patriarch, is a loving husband and dad and the brunt of verbal abuse from his tyrannical boss at Spacely Sprockets, Cosmo Spacely. Jane is his wise wife, Judy is a typical teenybopper daughter, and Elroy is his all-American-boy son. Astro, the pet dog, was found by Elroy and was brought home and upon being taken in by the family became George's lapdog. In the 1980s syndicated series, they acquired a new pet, a critter named Orbitty.
