An orderly is an employee of a medical facility such as a hospital or mental health care center who assists doctors and nursing staff with routine chores relating to their patients. Such duties may include setting up equipment, prepping a treatment area or restraining problematic patients.
Orderlies are often found in television programs of the medical drama genre. On the British supernatural TV series Being Human, the main characters of John Mitchell and George Sands worked as orderlies (though they are called porters on the series). On the North American counterpart to the program, Josh Levinson worked as an orderly, but eventually became a nurse.
