The Wellington Sign is a series of ten upright signs in the form of letters that spell out the word Wellington. It is located in the suburb of Miramar in the city of Wellington, New Zealand. It is situated in the hills above the Wellington Airport. Inspired by the infamous Hollywood sign of Los Angeles County, it has also been known as "Wellywood" - a conflation of Wellington and Hollywood. The sign was erected on July 27th, 2012.
On the TV series Wellington Paranormal, a cryptid known as the kurangaituku, or "birdwoman", stole various scraps of metal, debris and shiny objects to make its nest at the top of the Brooklyn Wind Turbine. Among the items that it took, it stole the "W" from the Wellington sign. [1]
