Vartox is a fictional alien criminal and an antagonist featured on the CBS television series Supergirl. Played by actor Owain Yeoman (The Mentalist), he appeared in the pilot episode of the series. He is based on a character featured in comic books published by DC Comics, and is traditionally a foe of Supergirl's more infamous cousin, Superman.
Overview
Vartox was an alien from an unrevealed world. Along with criminals from many races, mostly Kryptonians, he was captured and sentenced to prison at Fort Rozz, which was located in the Phantom Zone. When Fort Rozz broke through the Phantom Zone barrier and crash-landed on Earth, Vartox was among the first of the escapees. Vartox conspired with another criminal to take down an airplane carrying D.E.O. agent Alex Danvers, but the plane was saved by the first public appearance of Alex's adoptive sister, Kara Danvers, who took on the mantle of Supergirl.
Vartox and Supergirl later fought one another, but Vartox died when Supergirl damaged his axe, causing it to explode. [1]
