A vampire slayer is an individual who is committed towards the destruction of vampires. They usually possess an expert knowledge of their enemies, including their abilities, feeding grounds and position within a vampire hierarchy. A particular kind of vampire killer, known specially as a Slayer, is part of an ancient lineage of female Chosen Ones - young women who are destined to do battle the undead. Some vampire slayers possess their own superhuman abilities that give them an edge over their combatants. They also usually equip themselves with an arsenal of weaponry including wooden stakes, swords and incendiary devices. Those who hold the title of Slayer are usually found in the TV programs Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off series Angel. Another vampire slayer of note is Blade, who is a half-human/half-vampire from the Spike TV program Blade: The Series.
