Toby Whithouse is a British actor and television producer from Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England. He attended an art college in Southend before turning his intersests towards acting. His first professional television work was playing a student in the 1992 television movie A Masculine Ending. He also had a recurring role on The House of Eliott in 1994 as Norman Foss. As a writer, his first work was on the "Letting Go" episode of Where the Heart Is.
In 2004, Toby created the dramedy series No Angels, which was produced by World Productions and broadcast on Channel 4. The show received critical acclaim and ran for three series, totalling twenty-six episodes between 2004 and 2006. Toby made a guest appearance in the eighth episode of series three playing a waiter.
Toby Whithouse also wrote three episodes of the 2005 Doctor Who revival series including "School Reunion" (which reunited the Doctor with Sarah Jane Smith and the robotic K-9), "The Vampires of Venice" and "The God Complex". He also wrote the "Greeks Bearing Gifts" episode of the Doctor Who spin-off series Torchwood.
Toby's major contribution to the horror genre was the British supernatural drama Being Human, which involved a central cast consisting of a vampire, a ghost and a werewolf. The show premiered in 2008 and aired on BBC 3. Whithouse is credited as executive producer on the series as well as creative consultant and receives a "written and created by" credit on most episodes. He also served as an executive producer and format creator on the North American adaptation of the series, also called Being Human.
