Biography
Ronnie Raymond was a scientist who worked at S.T.A.R. Labs along with his fiancée, Caitlin Snow. Ronnie was inside the laboratory during the particle accelerator explosion, and it was believed that he had been killed in the blast. In truth, Ronnie survived, but the explosion activated a latent metahuman gene, giving him the ability to fly, as well as to project blasts of thermal energy. He wandered the streets of Central City as an amnesiac for weeks before he was discovered by Barry Allen, aka the Flash. Ronnie's memory eventually returned and he was reunited with Caitlin.
The nature of Ronnie's power required a symbiotic relationship with a human host. That host turned out to be Professor Martin Stein. The so-called "Firestorm" matrix fused both of them together, with Ronnie maintaining corporeal control of the host form and Stein's consciousnesses existing in a disembodied state. As Firestorm, Ronnie assisted the Flash several times in combating criminal metahuman threats.
Due to the machinations of the evil Harrison Wells, a large dimensional rift had opened up in the sky above Central City, threatening to cause massive destruction. Firestorm and the Flash worked together to close the rift, but in doing so, Ronnie disappeared, seemingly dead. Professor Stein survived however.
