Psych is an American detective comedy series, originally airing on the USA Network. It follows Shawn Spencer, a genius with an eidetic memory, who pretends to be a psychic and gains a position as a consultant at the Santa Barbara Police Department, solving various crimes with the help of his best friend, Gus. It stars James Roday Rodriguez (known as James Roday during the run of the series) as the hyper-observant sleuth Shawn Spencer and Dulé Hill as Burton "Gus" Guster, Shawn's nerdy best friend. Other main characters include Maggie Lawson as Juliet O'Hara, the new detective at the SBPD, Timothy Omundson as Carlton Lassiter, Head Detective, Kirsten Nelson as Chief (formerly interim chief) Karen Vick, and Corbin Bernsen as Shawn's father, Henry Spencer, who often appears in flashbacks to Shawn's childhood. Anne Dudek appeared as a detective named Lucinda Barry in the pilot.

Notes & Trivia
- The theme song to the series, "I Know You Know" was written and composed by series creator Steve Franks. Franks performs the song for the series with his band The Friendly Indians.
- Season one of Psych aired on Friday evenings at 10:00 pm, after Monk. Beginning with season two, the show was moved to the 10:00 pm time slot on Wednesdays.
- The character of Shawn Spencer is largely based on the life of creator Steve Franks. Like Shawn, Franks is the son of a California police officer who encouraged his son to follow in his footsteps, even to the point of making him go through observational exercises such as the ones that Henry Spencer puts Shawn through in this episode.
- Anne Dudek played an SBPD detective named Lucinda Barry in the pilot episode. She was the partner of Carlton Lassiter. With the second episode of season one, "Spellingg Bee", she was replaced by Maggie Lawson as Juliet O'Hara, who remained on the series as one of the regular cast members.
