Chief Constable Odo is a central character featured in the Star Trek television franchise and was an authority figure in the 1993-1999 television series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He is played by actor Rene Auberjonois and was introduced in the series' pilot episode, "Emissary". He appeared in all 173 episodes of the series, including Mirror Universe variants. Additionally, the character has been featured in numerous novels and comic book spin-off projects relating to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

• The character of Odo was created by director David Carson and teleplay writers and producers Rick Berman and Michael Piller based on concepts originally developed by Gene Roddenberry.

• Odo was first discovered in 2337, the same year that Tasha Yar and Neelix were born.

• Odo also made an animated appearance in the 2005 comedy film Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story. Rene Auberjonois reprised the role of Odo for the voice work in this film.

• Aside from playing Odo, Rene Auberjonois also directed nine episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

• Despite having the ability to change into nearly any shape or size, Odo appeared to have trouble duplicating human features. However, he was able to shape-shift into a variety of animals as well as other races, such as Klingons, without any difficulty.

• Odo is seldom seen eating or drinking, but occasionally, he will morph part of his body into a beverage and pretend to drink it for the sake of sharing a dining experience while off-duty. However, as Odo is merely re-absorbing his own matter when he does so, he gains no nourishment from such a feat.
