Monsignor is a form of address used by the Catholic Church. It is considered an awarded position handed down by the Pope himself, usually through the recommendation of a Bishop. The three offices associated with the style monsignor are Protonotary Apostolic, Honorary Prelate, and Chaplain of His Holiness.

On the FX Network TV series American Horror Story, the character of Timothy Howard of Briarcliff Manor is addressed by the title of Monsignor. He holds authority over the other nuns in the establishment including Sister Jude Martin and Sister Mary Eunice McKee.
