Synopsis
Father Tomas and Marcus Keane learn about a young girl named Harper Graham, who may be a victim of demonic possession. They visit Harper's home and consult with her mother, Lorraine, who is convinced that her daughter is possessed. Marcus tells Lorraine that they must first conduct an analysis to determine whether or not the girl is truly a victim of demonic possession.
Back at the group home, Andy talks with Caleb and tells him that he does not believe that Verity deliberately placed him in danger by leading him to the well. Shelby meanwhile, grows increasingly paranoid and is convinced that there is something evil at play here. He goes out to the lake where he begins praying at length. He witnesses a large flock of crows rising into the sky and descending upon the house. The birds fall down dead after impacting the house.
There is a new player in the game. A comely women with a scar on her cheek who calls herself "Mouse" is in France where the integrated Cardinal Guillot is hosting a dinner amongst his peers. He conducts a ritual that places a demonic host into the willing bodies of his guests. Mouse, disguised as a serving girl, gives them almond tarts dusted with ground up communion wafers. Once the cardinal and his guests consume them, they begin convulsing and vomiting up blood, ultimately falling over dead.
Back in the States, Marcus and Father Tomas examine Harper. Despite the physical lesions on her face and neck and her propensity for projectile vomiting, Marcus is not convinced that she is possessed. While they work with the girl, Rose Cooper arrives representing child services and asks Lorraine why her daughter has not been in school. Lorraine brusquely dismisses her, and as Rose leaves, she catches a glimpse of Father Tomas in the upstairs bedroom.
Tomas and Marcus quickly discover that Harper is not possessed, and that her mother has been deliberately feeding her medical cocktails to simulate the symptoms of demonic possession. Fearing that her ruse has been discovered, the insane Lorraine attacks Father Tomas with a hammer. Marcus is eventually able to overpower her. Rose Cooper returns to the house to collect Harper.
In Belgium, Mouse finds Father Bennett at a church ready to receive the sacrament. She tells him about how the Vatican has been compromised and that the demons are now targeting exorcists. She brings Bennett to an underground cavern where she shows him Sister Dolores Navarro - a once venerated exorcist who has now been integrated with a demon.
Back in Washington, Harper is released from the hospital after undergoing treatment to get the drugs out of her system. Rose Cooper arranges to have Harper transferred to Andy Kim's group home. Father Tomas and Marcus accompany her to survey Harper's new home.
