Season two of Defiance began airing on Syfy on a Thursday evening on June 19th, 2014 at 9:00 pm. There are thirteen episodes in the season in total. Most of the original season one cast members returned for season two including Grant Bowler as Joshua Nolan, Julie Benz as Amanda Rosewater, Stephanie Leonidas as Irisa Nyira, Tony Curran as Datak Tarr, Jaime Murray as Stahma Tarr and Graham Greene as Rafe McCawley. Departing the series at this time is Mia Kirshner, whose character Kenya Rosewater was seemingly killed off at the end of season one. Actor Jesse Rath, who plays Alak Tarr was a guest star in season one, but is now elevated to part of the main cast with season two. Also joining the season two main cast is James Murray in the role of Defiance provisional mayor, Niles Pottinger. Recurring guest stars for this season include Dewshane Williams as Tommy LaSalle, Trenna Keating as Doc Yewll and Nicole Muñoz as Christie McCawley.
