Caroline Frances John was a British television actress born in York, Yorkshire, England on September 19th, 1940. She is best known for playing the role of UNIT section leader Elizabeth Shaw on the science fiction television series Doctor Who and was the first companion of the Third Doctor (Jon Pertwee). She first appeared on the series in "Spearhead from Space (Part 1)" and made twenty-six appearances in the series in total.
Caroline's final television performance was in 2008 when she played Susna Milnes in the "Mummy Dearest" episode of Doctors. Caroline passed away in London, England on June 5th, 2012 at the age of 71.
