Ashley "Ash" J. Williams is a fictional retail clerk and monster hunter and the main character from Evil Dead multimedia franchise. He first appeared in the 1981 independent horror film The Evil Dead, where he was played by actor Bruce Campbell. Campbell reprised the role of Ash for the film's 1987 sequel Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn, wherein he applied a more humorous element to the character. Campbell kicked Ash into high gear in 1992's Army of Darkness, wherein he imbued him with his trademark braggadocio and wry humor. Since then, the character appeared in numerous comic book adaptations and video games based on the series, but it wasn't until 2015 that Ash found his way to the small screen with the Starz TV series Ash vs Evil Dead. And the world was forever grateful.
