Anthology refers to a type of television program that involves a rotating cast of actors and characters. These types of programs are not episodic by nature, which is to say, each is episode is a self-contained story that takes place in a fictional setting that is unrelated to those presented in other episodes. Some anthology series may even include multiple stories per episode, such as the 1980s relaunch of The Twilight Zone. Many anthology shows will have a host, an actor who opens each episode with a narrative briefly describing the events that will take place in the story. Such hosts include Vincent Price from Mystery!, Boris Karloff from Thriller, Rod Serling from the original The Twilight Zone and the fictional ghoul, the Cryptkeeper from the Tales from the Crypt horror anthology series.
